#02 BEHIND THE SCENES: Sunmuse Jewellery Campaign in Buenos Aires.
Remote shooting for a Sydney-based brand.
I am super excited to share with you today the latest campaign I shot for Sunmuse Studio.
Sunmuse is an Australian-based Jewellery & Eyewear brand. It’s owner, Olivia, and I have been working together for probably a year now. We collaborate closely on every project, from the concept to the shooting day. We have developed an amazing relationship and we totally understand each other (Client-Photographer goals!).
Since I was back home in Argentina and Olivia was in Sydney, this shoot was a little bit different. Before I left Australia she gave me some products to take with me and once I got home, we decided to do a remote shoot.
CONCEPT AND LOCATION
This time Oli didn’t have a specific idea for the shoot, so I suggested a few location options in Buenos Aires. When I found “Estudio Muse” I fell in love and knew this had to be our spot! (also the brand is called “Sunmuse” so shooting at “Estudio muse” just made sense).
We shared a few references until we had our moodboard. The idea was to create intimate and feminine photos in a cozy athmospehere, showcasing the products naturally.
Unlike most of the cases, the moodboard for the shoot was born from the location choice.
THE MODEL
Who helped us to bring this shoot to life was Sofia Rojo, a freelance model from Buenos Aires, recommended by one of my closest friends. Oli and I really felt she was a perfect fit for our moodboard, so once she confirmed her availability we didn’t bother with any other casting. It was super easy!
STYLING
We had a few styling ideas based on our moodboard and the jewellery pieces we were shooting. We ended up with five looks, some from the model’s wardrobe and some sourced by me. Everything was kept neutral to ensure the outfits didn’t overshadow the products, while staying true to our aesthetic: intimate and feminine.
SHOOT DAY
We had 11 jewellery pieces, 3 sunglasses, and just 2 hours to shoot. Honestly, 2 hours felt tight for the number of products and looks we planned, but with the model’s experience and the help of my wonderful assistant (..and sister. Thanks, Cande!), we managed to get everything done on time without too much stress.
The shoot started at 11 a.m. with beautiful natural light, but about half an hour in, the clouds rolled in, and we lost most of it. I typically avoid using artificial light, and it wouldn't have fit the moodboard we created anyway, so we had to get creative. We ended up shooting really close to the window to capture as much light as possible.
Aside from that, everything went super smoothly. No major issues, just a little adjustment to make the most of what we had.
When a shoot is remote, I like to send a few behind-the-scenes videos to the brand right after we finish. It helps them see how the day went and feel more connected to the whole process.
EQUIPMENT
I used my Canon EOS 5 + a 24-70 2.4 lens + a 50MM 1.8. lens and film was Portra 800.
… and that’s it for this week’s BTS!
